What kind of lenses should I get for my Canon EOS Rebel XSI DSLR ?

I was just curious because I just bought the Canon EOS Rebel XSI DSLR and it came with two
lenses one of which is the 18 – 55 mm IS Lens. Is this a good lens for outdoor and indoor ? Or should I buy another lense that is good for both ? Thanks !

The 18-55 mm is an excellent starting lens. It will provide you with landscapes, group shots as well as portraits. This lens can be used indoor or out. It will be up to you to adjust the ISO necessary to shoot at high enough shutter speeds to prevent blur caused by camera movement at slow shutter speeds.

The alternative lens (EF 17-55 mm f/2.8 – $1,180) may stretch your budget to bursting. A better way to go is to buy a second lens like 1) the 55-250 mm ($300) and spend the saved money on the amazing 10-22 mm lens ($860) or 2) sell the 18-55 mm and buy the 18-200 mm ($750).

With those figures, you can figure out which lens or set of lenses will provide you with the best balance in your Canon system

Remember you are buying Canon lenses, there are NO bad Canon lenses, some are just better than others … and of course cost more

BTW, there are no indoor or outdoor lenses .. all lenses can be used indoors or out. If you are asking about better lenses for shooting indoors without a flash, then ANY of the Canon f/2.8 lenses will let you hand hold your camera under low light conditions, but of course there is the trade off. Less depth of field and a huge cost increase

Canon Xsi, Canon Xs Improved?

Having been robbed of my Canon XS, I had the opportunity to have a Canon XSi and I am able to make a real comparison between the two!

To see a real test of Canon XS/ Canon XSi look at my full review on the Canon XS and I see no interest to re-write my test:  that there has been cool on this device.
HOLDING

The camera is exactly the same size! Same shape and same functions and same locations of buttons!

Just as the buttons and the dial are a little smaller on the Canon XSi.
Adjustment wheel rimmed chrome! little more upscale with respect to his little brother.
The rubber coating Canon XSi at a thicker and more serious than the Canon XS ago the same coating instead of the thumb behind. the Canon XS does not have this coating to the back.

To touch it is more “class” and it slips a little less, but this anecdote is, of the Canon XS rubber grabs as well.

The menus are exactly alike! just slightly larger screen. Frankly (from memory) I see no difference with 2.5 “… like what the Canon XS 0.5″ is also anecdote.
When the screen is off, not on the Canon XS, never had me do this gen, but it may be that may obstruct some people in the dark …

USE

Auto focus already owns 9 points, only 7 Canon XSi.
But … always used as the central! Although more sensitive than other points.

The “Matuvu” who owns a DSLR to be fine, using the automatic modes will perhaps be fewer missed connections with a photo that 7 … 9 points
Indeed, in auto mode (green or program) to a device selected one or more points to the MAP (development), never one to be elsewhere …
I said that with more points the picture will probably be more usable …

Besides, I’ll give advice to the MAP with only the central portrait eg
You do the MAP with the central eyes (shutter halfway) you do not release the finger!
You compose your picture with the shutter still halfway and pressed strongly for the shooting.

The eyes are clear! and you will use the center.
9 points better than 7? yes, but not very useful.

The Canon XSi is well or better than the Canon XS is well on the viewfinder! Although brighter and slightly larger. There are more comfortable and convenient!
Although the difference are not huge, but when we know that we take a picture with the viewfinder (live view mode is ineffective at) we better understand that there are, the better the result!

Very good point for the Canon XSi!

When using it already offers a shooting rate much faster than his little brother! is really interesting.

Even if I do not make wildlife photography or racing, it’s still nice to be able to snipe at up to 3 frames per second! The Canon XS is twice as slow.

Well I almost never do this gen (and not to hinder absolutely no amateur who take photos in jpeg, cadence is almost the same, I remind you that we must take photos in RAW-> see my test The Canon XS)

Surprisingly for two identical devices, the noise rating is a little different! prettier on the Canon XSi!

This unit has a mode “high priority light” which is not much in it, I immediately actually found this feature useful. It seems that this limits the rical cramage white … bof … The Canon XS has not … and it is not serious.

The 10MP sensor increases from 12!
purely marketing! 6mp are already more than enough for photos printed in poster size! 10 is too wide, so 12 … just enough to make you buy a bigger card …

Well, we will not spit on you? but to justify the purchase of the Canon XSi compared to the Canon XS… um …

It does not talk for hours on his formidable qualities on the field! this device is a pure killer! terrible quality!

They are identical! qualities photos are identical!

The basic objective is the famous 18-55 IS, excellent! also fitted on the Canon XS (note new Canon XS have the dreadful 18-55 just good to wedge a door)

CONCLUSION
In use I found two identical units! with a record of identical photos and offering the same ergonomic …

The viewfinder of the Canon XSi is mainly the biggest difference with the Canon XS to justify its purchase. The screen is a bit more comfortable and strangely no more battery-hungry.
But are you ready to spend almost 150 € more just for that?

If I had not had the Canon XSi at this price, I pursued without hesitation his clone much less expensive.

I still put the max stars, because we are dealing here with an exceptional product, which are not that expensive! People wanting a little more comfort, technology and 580 € the venues Canon XSi, and not regret it!

Just as the Canon XS, more cheap, doing such is much cheaper!

EDITION
Here we are the venerable Canon XSi are no longer produced. It will be gently removed from the market in early March.

There are replaced by the Canon T1i which is replaced by the Canon T2i (Canon T1i down the line then).

The replacements are not lacking in assets!

If you sell a Canon XSi or Canon T1i soon do it now … New prices will fall sharply in the coming days!
