so…the light from the soft box = the flash?
when you have a softbox, aimed at the model and the flash inside it goes off…. is the light from the flash the same as what the model looks like under the regular light?
if i lower the light in the softbox, wont the flash still put out the same amount of light?
You I guess are talking about the modelling light and the actual flash.
The modelling light is a “normal” bulb which is there basically to see what effect (shadow etc) the actual strobe will have on the subject.
When you take the shot the modelling light goes of and the “flash” illuminates the scene.
Depending on the lights you have the modelling light will increase or decrease according to what “strength” you have dialled in for the flash.
What you actually see in the scene with the modelling lights on is not what the film will see when the shot is taken. This is because your brain adjusts to try and see everything whereas the film will only record what it can depending on sensitivity etc etc.
That is why photographers use ‘roids to check the lighting. Nowadays with digital it is easier to take the lighting test shots.
