Photographic reflector?
can someone give me some tips on what types of materials that can be used to make my own reflectors. Just taking little things like pictures of flowers close ups. In the books I always read what they say to use a reflector. I thought of a piece of cardboard with aluminum foil, shiny on one side a dark side. Will it work?
All the posters above has a good point to add. But I just want to add that if you were to use white paper but be careful because some have extra additive white paper some are slightly blue or yellow (not visible under the interior light.) They can throw off the color in your photo. You can experiment and for the most part they will have no problem (but just keep this in mind if you get a tint of color). In addition, the reflector size makes the difference. A 8×10 paper alone is sufficient for flower the size of a rose. But if you were to take a picture of a dozen roses he would not be enough. Also a 8×10 on a single rose can create truly reflects the directionality of the light (and create shadows evident in the opposite side). But using a larger reflector and the shadow will be much softer or even disappeared. And as such, for a face shot, you need a minimum of 12-24 reflector-inch (diagonal). For a length a person's total, it takes about 6 feet tall. === Usually the silver reflector (crumpled aluminum foil) on cloudy days. On sunny days, the side Silver reflector will be too hard. Here's a little known fact about the reflector: reflector can create BLACK. REFLECTOR People call it black, but in reality is an absorbent light. Sometimes you may be in a situation where the lighting is too flat (even lighting everywhere). Using a BLACK REFLECTOR, to "create" an area of shadow side to side reflectors are not expensive. Natural light photography
When I am photographing a wedding, usually begin to work with the bride hours before the ceremony begins. Most brides are prepared in a nearby hotel or family member, large enough to accommodate all the brides maids. Like most weddings take place during the day, there should be plenty of available light in the room to work with them. Natural light will always be stronger as it approaches the window. You need to evaluate in light of this window or windows in different parts of the room. We know that digital photography allows no more than the exposure of the shadows so you will need to combine the light with a proper exposure. window light is very directional too much to vary their exposure several stops in different parts of the same room.
One thing to remember is to keep the window as the background, unless you are creating a cropped image or use a reflector, which I will touch a bit later. If you pull the window, you can get a proper exposure of the object but the background is completely eliminated. window light can be very soft flattering facial features. In fact, many stylists bride's face to the window for the application to compensate for the job easier.
2.8 shots with a long lens will allow you to sit in the back and catch the day's events. The long help eliminate some of the occupations of the background too. The hotels are famous for the warm lights, busy patterns and artwork. Bringing a little harder on the subject and the soft light coating them. Do not be afraid to use a monopod, that way you can get the slowest shutter speed necessary and stay mobile while subjects are moving around the room.
When the bride is dressed and ready, light from the window will help you create a portrait very well lit. A reflector or bounce card is a good thing to carry only one those occasions.
