Need a new digital Camera need advice?

I am interesting in birding and possible digi scoping but not sure what camera work best for this. I want something that powers up fast since I like to photograph birds and wild animals and 1) you can’t always get close 2) they are very quick. I do want something that either has interchangable lenses for optical zoom not much interested in digital zoom because it pixilates the photo. I have a camera now but I am getting better and want a better camera to improve the results in my photo. I have done some research but its hard reading all the mumbo jumbo. Bottom line I will be using it mostly for bird photography and some wildlife from a distant. Any suggestions, something afforable too.

i’d say go for the S3 IS from canon. its got a 12x zoom, and is a canon (which is always a good thing!) plus image stabilisation is a must for the long zoom.
alternatively, theres the new S5 IS which will be available soon.
it looks good.
if you want interchangeable lenses, then an SLR is the best thing for you (plus it will deliver the best results), however price-wise, any SLR will be expensive!
plus you need to learn, as the auto modes arent normally very good.
i would suggest a canon 400D. or the nikon equivalent.
plus then you have to buy the lens with a good zoom, which will cost A LOT!
all in all, value wise, ease of use, and zoom length; i would chose the Canon S3/5 IS (i dont think theres too much difference, and the s3 will be going down in price) or the sony H9, which has a long zoom, but unfortuanelty doesnt take SD cards; or an Olympus Ultra zoom (18x zoom).
i think the canon will give you the best pictures however.

ps. the guy above me- megapixels dont matter! as long as you have over 6MP, you’ll be fine. unless you want to print bigger that is. but for most people, 6MP is adequate. plus file size will increase with more megapixels.
